The Case of the Missing Birds

Kimba from A Soft Place to Land has inspired me to get a pair of bird figurines. I found a pair at the thrift store on Saturday. They were already white so I didn't have to spray them. However, they were very dirty.

I put them in my dishwasher and later that evening when I emptied the dishwasher, I couldn't find my birds. Did I actually put them in? Yes. Were they already taken out? No. I noted a white powdery residue on my dishes and white granulars on the bottom of my dishwasher. OMG, is this what's left of my birds. Well, that was literally $6.00 down the drain.

I never heard of that happening before. Does anyone know what they were made of? Has this happened to anyone else?

Oh No! That is so sad...

I don't know what they were made of but obviously they weren't dishwasher proof.

Man, that stinks!

YES!
This has happened to me once.
Not in a dishwasher, but in the sink. I was washing a pair of chicken salt & peppers I got at an Antiques shop and, after letting them soak, they fell apart in my hands! I'm not sure what they're made of. It must be the age of them for one thing.
Sorry yours went down the drain. At least with mine I could see it happening instead of having to figure it out!

Oh how awful! I imagine the birds were some sort of ceramic.

It is hard to tell on antique or vintage linens if they are Irish, Belgian or French. All are of good quality.

After you wash your tablecloth set it out to dry in the sun~all day. The sun acts as a natural bleaching agent. It may take a few attempts.
Linen also dyes quite well if you can't get rid of the stain.

Hope you will visit soon. I am having a giveaway tomorrow.

Karen, that's awful! I'm sorry that happened. They might have been made of some sort of plaster of Paris type substance. I had a rabbit that I "thought" was a yard ornament. Turns out, his ear got messed up when water hit it, and the ear disentertated on the tip. Maybe this is the same case with your birgs. Just a wild guess...

XO,

Sheila :-)

Funny story about the birds. Isn't Goodwill a fabulous place to find old dishes and glassware?

What a funny post... I think today was my first visit to you blog via Spiritual Sunday... and of course had to ready some additional posts... this one is so cute and funny... I just had to comment (loved the glaciers too!). Your little birds may have been made from chalk or alabaster... either way, bet you learned your lesson about the diswasher... so cute and funny... thanks for putting a smile on my face this morning... in more ways than one...
