Ice Cream Social

Suzy from Kitchen Bouquet is hosting an ice cream social. Ice cream is my favorite dessert, so you can be sure I'm going to check out every single post. You can too, if you click here.

I made home made ice cream for my grandchildren while we were camping over the 4th. I have a Donvier ice cream maker. It is so easy to do.

First you put the metal cylinder inside your freezer for 24 hours. There is a liquid that freezes and eliminates the need for ice and salt.

After you cook your milk and egg mixture, you refrigerate the ingredients overnight, too.

The fun part is when you turn it. The grandkids took turns turning 2 or 3 turns of the crank every few minutes. It turns pretty easy. After 20 minutes you have homemade ice cream. We just made the French Vanilla flavor.

The Donvier is also good to make slushies.

Now that's a neat item! So do you have to turn it the whole time or just a little? It reminds me of an Icee Maker one of my friends had when we were little. What a great thing for the kids while camping! Memories in the making for them. Thanks so much for joining me for the Ice Cream Social. I've loved everyone's posts.

I have many fond memories of homemade ice cream with friends. Of course there were those times when salt got into the ice cream mix. Not so good!

Glad you don't have those issues with this kind of maker.

How fun for the grandchildren! There is something missing when you make ice cream without having to crank the handle! My memories of homemade ice cream include "working for it"! After turning and turning we welcomed the cold tasty treat!

Thank you for visiting my blog!

I still remember the ice cream we made and the pies we baked in my grandparent's camper. What a great thing to do with your grandkids. They will always remember this! ALWAYS :-)

I have 2 ice cream makers. But my old style ice cream maker, still electric, but so much faster then the new ones.

The one you have is so cute and I bet the grand kids love it!

What a great ice cream maker. The only ones I have had require the rock salt and the whole nine yards. Would love one that is so much easier. Bet your grandkids had a great time!

I've seen those ice cream makers in the store and wondered how well they worked. Looks like you've answered that question for me, thanks!

Making ice cream with kids gives them sweet memories. I loved this activity with my grandmother and my mom.

Karen, this sounds great! I've seen ice cream makers, but this makes me want to buy one. What a good idea to have on hands with kids in the summer. Not only are you making ice cream, you are making memories. And it really does look simple and fun!

XO,

Sheila :-)

How fun for the grandchildren to feel that they had a part in making it. I bet they thought it tasted better after they had done the cranking. laurie
